My Role:
Designer, developer
Brief:
While it misrepresents change as a linear process, the Kübler-Ross Change Curve is still useful for understanding the different emotions that arise during the change process.
This experience was created to be embedded within the ACS Quality Improvement Certificate Program.
Tools:
- Articulate Storyline
- Adobe Illustrator
- Midjourney
- ElevenLabs
The Solution:
After learning about the steps/emotions in the Change Curve and change management strategies to help employees move through each phase, the learner tests their knowledge by navigating a realistic scenario based on a real-life case study of a quality improvement project to implement an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system:
- Scenario design: The activity follows the basic formula for scenario-based learning: story setting → situation → decision → correct answer (with consequence/feedback) OR incorrect answer (with consequence/feedback). Learners are “shown” versus “told” the consequences of their choices.
- Vector imagery: Vector imagery allows for greater flexibility and modification to fit branding requirements, inclusive representation, and facial expressions/body language consistent with learning content.
- AI-enhanced: I have been challenging myself to skill up in AI. This was a fun opportunity to practice creating an AI voice with ElevenLabs, and using my existing vector imagery to prompt Midjourney for similar background images.
- Animation: With careful attention not to increase cognitive load, I wanted to make the UI a more enjoyable experience with motion effects. I used a combination of After Effects and advanced Storyline techniques to create a character walk cycle, parallax effect, and steaming cup of coffee.
- Friendly, readable font: I used the Figtree typeface for this project. The Figtree typeface is highly readable with nice font variations for titles and buttons (Black and Semibold options). It is friendly without being overly playful.
